About Him

The Word

the Bible (the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments) is the Word of God, written.  As a "God-breathed" revelation, it is thus Divinely inspired and completely without error (historically, scientifically, morally, and spiritually) and contradictions in its original writings.  It is the one and only infallible, authoritative, and trustworthy rule for faith and life. (2 Peter. 1:21, 2 Tim. 3:16).   While God the Holy Spirit supernaturally superintended the writing of the Bible, that writing nevertheless reflects the words and literary styles of its individual human authors.  Scripture reveals the being, nature, and character of God, the nature of God's creation, and especially His will for the salvation of human beings through Jesus Christ.  The Bible is therefore our supreme and final authority in all matters that it addresses.

"In the begining God created..." are the first five words of the Bible.  Subsequently, we hold that the frame of reference within Genesis 1:2, the narrator's vantage point, to be the surface of Earth above the water but below the cloud layer.  To follow, the Bible corresponds well to the most current scientific findings in cosmology and the life sciences. Proper interpretation of the Bible reconciles faith and science perfectly.   God doesn't lie to us in the Biblical text or in the obvious facts of the created universe. According to Psalm 19:1-4, God speaks not only through the words of the Bible but also through the record of nature.  Since God speaks truth and chooses to reveal Himself, nature's record and the Bible's words can be expected to agree.

If we simply assume that the Bible is just what it appears to be and study its 66 books to know their contents, we will find a unity of thought that indicates that one Mind inspired the writing and compilation of the whole collection of books.  We will find that it bears the stamp of its Author and that it is in a unique and distinctive sense the very Word of God.  God Himself superintended and directed the writings of the Bible books in such a way that what was written was the writing of God.

The Bible is an account of God's revealing Himself to humanity.
It is God's own record of His dealings with people in His unfolding revelation of Himself to the human race.  The Bible is the revealed will of the Creator of all of humanity, given to His creatures by the Creator Himself, for instruction and guidance along life's paths.  It contains precisely the things God wants mankind to know, in exactly the form in which He wants us to know them.

To begin
, you need a translation that is comfortable for modern day readers and a place to start, such as the New International Version, New American Standard Bible, the English Standard Version or the New King James Version (which updates the old King James language for today’s readers).

At minimum, we encourage you to read Genesis and then any or all of the first four books of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke and/or John.  Perhaps begin with John - and try reading it as if the account was true and Jesus was smart.  You will be astonished at His argument style, debate skills and convicting persuasion.  The Historical Jesus is very true and real, He is the center and heart of the Bible.

The entire Biblical story is About Him.
The whole Bible is built around this beautiful story of Christ and His promise of life eternal to those who accept Him as THE Way, THE Truth and THE Life...THE Solution for humanity's broken and estranged relationship with God our Creator.  The Bible was written ONLY that people might believe, and understand, and know, and love, and follow Christ.

It's a 'bad news story' with a 'Good News ending', of which we pray you take full advantage.
