God, the eternal "I AM," is everything and needs nothing yet acts as if He needs everything, including you and me.
Imposing existence on nonexistence, He created ALL material, space, time, energy, life and being (infinite angels and finite spiritual persons) from nothing for His own pleasure. He lent humanity His image so that we too can claim, "I am." In love, God gave all spiritual persons free will and let us choose between Himself (good, truth, light, life, Christianity, Heaven) and His fallen angel Satan (evil, deceipt, darkness, death, Narcissistianity, Hell). With pride, humanity bought the Devil's sales pitch that we could replace God, and God respected our decision. Satan was handed the keys to the earthly Kindom and existence has been on big tragic drama ever since. Separated from God's all-good holy presence, evil manifested and compounded. "Hell happens!"
So what did God do next? He sent His angel to ask permission from His mother to be born so that He could become a human zygote, fetus, baby, boy, teenager, man, carpenter, teacher, sinless sacrifice, corpse, and then ascended Saviour. God Almighty, infinite Spirit, the Second Person of the eternal Trinity, acquired a set of animal organs - forever - so that He could be beaten and crucified to death ON OUR BEHALF. Why? To settle the score once and for all with God Almighty - to die for OUR SINS, NOT HIS. The 'Good News' is that Jesus miraculously DEFEATED death, clearing the way for a restored eternal relationship with God in Heaven.
Believe that, you go there. Don't, you go to Hell. Forever.
With stakes like that, how can we believe this that is unbelievable? Only because He Himself gives us the grace to believe it. Not only are these factual events miracles, but our faith IN THEM is also a miracle. It is a miracle that Christians can believe an unbelievable truth yet maintain intellectual fulfillment, right? Yes it is. "Faith is a gift from God." God gives us not only the truth but also the ability to believe it; not only the new worldview but also the new eye to see it with. Once believed, the story of Jesus is the most beautiful and precious truth ever conceived. His story (history) is not man-made. For, as Kierkegaard says (in Philosophical Fragments, end of chapter two):
Although it is possible that foolish little men might believe God was as foolish and as little as they were (thus pagan polytheistic mythology), or that they were as great and wise as God was (thus pantheistic mysticism), how was it possible that anyone would think that God would love man; that the God who needed nothing would act as if He needed man; that the blessed God Himself, the perfect One, would care so much for man that He would become man and let Himself be murdered by man in order to save man? If God gave no sign, how could we ever suspect that? It is inconceivable, incredible, impossible, and unimaginable. It's certainly not boring.
There are only two types of people in this world:
- Those who have met Jesus Christ and submit to Him.
- Those who have met Jesus Christ and deny Him.
Deny Him freely and suffer an existence absent ALL good eternally; or submit to Him freely and enjoy a glorious existence absent ALL bad eternally.
The transaction of Jesus is THE ULTIMATE unfair trading practice. In exchange for receiving the free gift of faith without merit (even if at first you receive it begrudgingly), in exchange for believing the truth of The Cross over the deception of the apple, Jesus will trade all HIS goodness for all YOUR badness with love – no strings attached.
Yes, it's true. Despite being "guilty as charged," a full acquittal from non-belief and sin (ALL sin - yesterday's, today's and even tomorrow's) can easily be obtained – simply by following the evidence where it leads and believing in His story.
A new fulfilling life is yours to claim. As you examine the Christian answers to the challenges within, we pray you will suspend your disbelief and openly consider the truth claims of Christianity. At minimum, we invite you to read the Gospel of John as if the account was true and Jesus is God. It was and He is.
