If the incredible complexity of the world requires an intelligence to explain its existence, wouldn’t this intelligence be all the more complex, and thus all the more in need of an intelligence to explain its existence?

No, because there is no reason whatsoever to suppose that a simple (uncomposed) being could not possess the intelligence and power to create worlds of enormous complexity.  Indeed, in a previous question it was shown that precisely the opposite is the case.
