"We're just trying to reach the kind of people we used to be."
Like Rod, Cheryl, Alan and Lee – skeptical non-believers who consider all this “God stuff” nonsense (I did too). "Jesus was a borrowed myth." "The Bible is just a book." "Evolution is a fact rendering God unnecessary." "I lack belief in God." "Religion is the opium of the people." "If it's good for you, hey, good for you..." "Faith and science cannot be reconciled." All correct claims, right? Wrong.
THIS SITE ADDRESSES ATHEISM'S TOP CHALLENGES TO CHRISTIANITY - HEAD ON. One site. 100+ challenges. 100+ answers. (...and some questions FOR atheists too!)
It is our motive to establish the Christian faith as the truth - not 'a' truth, but THE truth. There is a case for the Christian God, and it is cumulative and persuasive! To avoid any potential misunderstanding, it is important that you know WHAT we believe (your job) so that we can then defend WHY we believe it (our job). Note, if you consider no further, we would ask that you at least read The Bottom Line.
So what's wrong with atheism?
Does atheism simply describe a person who does not believe that God, gods or super-natural beings exist? Not according to our friends at American Atheists who wrote a very clear and succinct ‘Statement of Faith’ to assumedly counter the 325 A.D. Christian Nicene Creed:
Atheism is a doctrine that states that nothing exists but natural phenomena (matter), that thought is a property or function of matter, and that death irreversibly and totally terminates individual organic units. This definition means that there are no forces, phenomena, or entities which exist outside of or apart from physical nature, or which transcend nature, or are “super” natural, nor can there be. Humankind is on its own (Atheism Creed).
In summary, ‘nothing created everything’.
Please stop. Read these three words again - 'nothingcreatedeverything'. On any cloudless night, walk outside and genuinely, authentically, non-dismissively contemplate that all you see - all stars, planets, space, time and energy were...BANG!...created from nothing13.73 billion years ago. Now ask yourself, "How do I KNOW?" Knowledge requires a mind and a mind requires a life. Are you trulyintellectually satisfied that your non-material life essence and non-material mind capable of contemplating these non-material questions with non-material logic and non-material reason evolved from a material rock? Manifested from 'nothing by nothing'? Have you ever really, truly thought about that? (And Christians are accused of blind faith?)
Christians Lack 'Belief in Atheism'
For Christians, the first five words of the Bible firmly anchor our beginnings:
Creatio ex nihilo refers to God creating everything from nothing - all space, time, matter and energy. "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). Prior to that moment there was nothing. God didn't make the Universe from preexisting building blocks. He started from scratch.
Imago Dei means human beings are created in God's image and therefore have inherent value independent of their utility or function; God's own self-expression through humankind. We are uniquely spiritual and posses special qualities of human nature which are aspects of the image of God manifest in us.
Did Darwin kill God?
From an atheist perspective denying the Supernatural, the only explanation is that humans descended from a single common ancestor whose life essence came into existence about 3.9 billion years ago from non-life material. Forget 'ape to man', consider the impossibility of 'matter to mind'. Are we merely matter in motion? Nothing more than warm-blooded evolved animals? Advanced apes capable of manufacturing lethal weapons, designing nice ties, sporting designer suits and propogating fictional theories about macro-evolution?
We affirm with complete assurance, "No."
A mindful God did it, not mindless Evolution.
Perhaps at this point we'll agree to disagree. We're simply grateful you found your way to this site and are open to consider the answers. As you will quickly determine, we do not shy away from atheist challenges (and hope you do not shy away from ours). If you have any additional challenges that were not covered here, please submit them. We commit that if they are serious, we'll take them seriously and yours will be added to our list of challenges answered. It is our prayerful hope to exhaust your disbelief with convincing, compelling answers so that you may come to know the Way, THE Truth and the Life, Jesus Christ.
